about lowell academy hairstyling institute

Welcome to the world of cosmetology. The beauty and hair world is bigger than ever, and the need for creative, well-trained cosmetologists is growing.

Lowell Academy’s main objective is offering beginning courses in cosmetology and manicuring to prepare students to become hairdressers and nail technicians. The Academy’s performance—oriented curriculums consist of 1000 clock hours for cosmetology and 110 hours for manicuring. Satisfactorily completing these programs will qualify students to apply for a state-licensing exam.

Lowell Academy continually updates their courses with new techniques to provide students with state-of-the-art instruction while providing support for their personal and professional growth.

Facilities
Lowell Academy is located in downtown Lowell where it occupies a two-story building. The first floor is a clinic area where, under the guidance of our instructors, students practice on clients at the school clinic.

The second floor has two large rooms:

  • Our theory and demonstration area, where we use charts, books, live models, video tapes, movies, and slide presentations for class
  • A practice area, where mannequins, dryers, and sinks are located

Lowell Academy does not have housing facilities for students and is not accessible to the totally disabled individual.

Our History
Founded in 1933 by Newton and Anna Akashian, Lowell Academy was first located at 97 Central Street, which is directly across the street from our current location. Mr. Akashian was a member of Hair America, which is the style body in charge of creating the new fashions for the National Cosmetologists Association. Mrs. Anna Akashian was one of the charter members of the Massachusetts Cosmetology Association. Their son, N. Robert Akashian Jr. is now the director of the school.

Placement Assistance
No school or college can guarantee a job for its students or graduates. However, we will use our best efforts to provide continuous placement assistance to our graduates. Our placement is done by a current listing of job opportunities at salons that have contacted the school looking for help and by salons being contacted by the school for opened positions. This information is given to students prior to graduation. A graduate may also call the school or drop in to find out about our latest listing of available jobs.
